Chiefs Day at the Capitol & Goals Conference

Tuesday, March 14, 2017, has been declared “Police Chiefs/Heads of Law Enforcement Agencies Day” at the Georgia State Capitol.

The location for our pre-Capitol meeting is as follows:

Georgia Department of Public Safety
180 Central Ave SW
Atlanta, Georgia 30303

(The above location is in the Talmadge Plaza area, one block west of the Capitol, across the street from the Fulton County Courthouse at the intersection of Central Ave and Mitchell Street.  The covered free parking is on Central Ave)

Time: 9:00 AM Sharp

After the meeting/training program, which is expected to end at about 11:00 AM, we will take a walk to the Twin Towers (Sloppy Floyd Buildings) to have lunch in the cafeteria.  We will be assigned one of the cafeteria lines where a GACP employee will be stationed with a credit card in hand.  After lunch, you are encouraged to walk across the roadway to the Capitol and/or to the Coverdale Legislative Office Building (CLOB) to meet with one or more of your legislators; however, remember we are on a tight time schedule.

At 12:45 PM, we will reconvene in the Rotunda south wing area near the staircase to read several resolutions with the Governor and a few Senators and Representatives. Please be ready for a group photo.

Three hours of executive level training will be granted only to those who attend both the meeting/training program and the proclamation readings.

Goals Conference

For an added benefit to this year’s program (and two additional training hours), our in-coming President, Warden Dennis Nelson will conduct his “Goals Conference”.  After our Capital meeting, we will return to the Georgia Department of Public Safety Building from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM where you will have the opportunity to let our in-coming President, Warden Dennis Nelson, know where you think our association should go in the future.  He will collect your ideas and consider what he believes will be achievable goals for GACP in 2017/2018.  Within 4-6 weeks, he will issue a memo to the membership explaining the goals he hopes to accomplish during his term.   *District Representatives, Committee Chairs, and members who wish to be part of GACP’s leadership team, please do your best to attend this additional two-hour program.*

Reiterating:

9:00 AM through the presentations at the Capitol, Three CEO/POST training hours will be granted.

2:00 PM through 4:00 PM (Goals Conference), Two CEO/POST training hours will be granted.

History has dictated that the most often asked questions are:

  • Where can I park my vehicle?    This year, we have good news regarding parking.  You may park your vehicle for the day at our training site. Please reread the first paragraph for our parking location.  Carpooling would be appreciated!
  • Can I wear my gun into the Capitol?  That answer is simple – if you are sworn, you can carry your weapon at the Capitol.
  • Should I wear my uniform?  You are encouraged to wear your uniform.
  • Can I bring one of my other staff members?  Simply said…Yes.
  • If my significant other wishes to come to Atlanta with me?  Family is family.

If you have additional questions, call our office at 770-495-9650.

Remember, mark your calendar “busy” for March 14, 2017!
