I have been communicating with members of the General Motors Police Car Fleet Executive Management Team regarding a recently discovered problem with respect to 2007 Chevrolet Police Impalas. The aforementioned problem was brought to my attention by an astute police chief who noticed that the rear tires on many of his 2007 Impalas appeared to be prematurely wearing. A closer inspection revealed that not only were the tires prematurely wearing, but that the wear-pattern was substantially unequal rendering several of the tires unsafe. The chief provided to me digital photos of the tires and once I viewed the photos, my course of action was to contact our GM Fleet “point of contact” to determine what GM knew about this situation.
In response to my inquiry I immediately received telephone calls and emails from, no less than, three upper level GM managers. All of the managers indicated that they had, within the last several weeks, become aware of the problem and the GM engineers were working on deterring the cause of the premature and uneven tire wearing. Once the basis of the problem is determined, a solution would be offered to their consumers.
All of the GM managers were very professional in addressing this issue of concern and they all urged me to notify GACP members of this problem. Additionally, they asked that I urge their law enforcement customers to inspect their 2007 Chevrolet Impala fleet vehicles immediately. If premature and uneven wear is noted during the inspections, GM respectfully requests that the purchasing dealer be notified. If satisfaction is not obtained from your dealer of choice, GM’s Fleet Action Center should be telephoned, 1.800.353.3867, prompt 4. If for some reason, neither of the aforementioned alternatives provides satisfaction to you, you may directly telephone Georgia’s GM Fleet Account Executive Mr. Al Zak at 770.844.7765.
I would like to inform all who read this correspondence that General Motors sincerely appears to be working diligently to determine the cause of the problem. I find their diligence very reassuring.
