Death Benefits for Peace Officers

When there is death of a peace officer, agencies and officers struggle through the seven (7) stages of grief.  While the pain is difficult for other officers and the agency, it is often overwhelming for the family of the deceased officer.  Fortunately, it is a rare event for individual agencies; however, nationwide a peace officer is killed every 53 hours.  As a result, agencies should be prepared to address this horrible possibility.   In order to assist your agency with the development of a comprehensive contingency plan to assist survivors, GACP has added a new section to our website.  The new section entitled, Death Benefits for Peace Officers, seeks to provide a single source for agencies to consult in order to obtain information for assisting the survivors.  While GACP realizes it is impossible to include everything, every effort will be made to be comprehensive.  Consequently, additional links and contact information will be added as GACP becomes aware of them.  Please note that information is provided that includes the following topics:
